Welcome to the world of Vacheron Constantin, today we’re looking at the Quai De L’ile 2016 SIHH novelty release. In 2007, Vacheron Constantin released the Quai De L’ile as an avant garde statement. The 2016 stainless steel represents the first ever instance of this model found in stainless steel. The watch features the aggressive character lines and contrasting metallic finish for which the model line has become known for. The dial is just as distinctive as the case. Outboard a combination of has marks, indices and Arabic numerals with an inner dial features the company marquee, Maltese cross icon and the date wheel. The date wheel itself is indicated by a mobile index which rotates around the wheel. The date wheel stays stationary.

You’ll also note clever design features, such as an under slung strap, allow the watch to appear integrated while appearing to also be a series of modules. The tension exists with a low-gloss alligator leather strap completed with a double deployant twin trigger release clasp. Since both triggers need to be engaged to open the clasp, shock cannot open up the strap when it’s on your wrist.

The Quai De L’ile was a concept to bring the dress watch into the 21st century. As such, it incorporates some dimensions that can be considered more sporting than dress watch. The watch is an impressive 41mm across the case, spanning 50mm from lug to lug. The timepiece features a manufacture in-house designed and executed caliber 5100 movement. This provides the watch a 60-hour power reserve paired with the convenience of automatic winding with the long wearing durability of unlubricated ceramic bearings. The timepiece is endowed with 30m water resistance.

The Quai De L’ile is a cross between dress and sports watches, making it an innovative design.
